Six-Month Ratings Surge Continues as ‘Wendy’ Ranks Fourth Overall in Metered Markets, Leaping Versus May 2012 and February 2013 in First 10 Days of Sweeps

New York and Los Angeles, May 13, 2013 – Producer-distributor Debmar-Mercury’s The Wendy Williams Show, now in its fourth season, is the only one of 12 nationally syndicated entertainment/information talk shows to post both year-to-year and sweep-to-sweep local metered market ratings gains in the key daytime demo of women 25-54.

During the first 10 days of the May sweeps, Wendy climbed 22% in rating and 26% in share (1.0/6 to 1.1/8) in the all-important demo versus May 2012. It has also improved from the significant increase it posted during the February sweeps, rising another 4% in share to a fourth-place 1.1 rating/8 share sweep-to-date.

“This confirms what we already know—Wendy’s ratings momentum is no fluke,” stated Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus, co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury. “With two original months of original episodes on tap for June and July, this continued upward trajectory in a down market bodes very well for the summer months ahead.”

In March, the Lionsgate-owned company announced it had ordered more original episodes in the summer, when the program’s core audience grows with younger viewers drawn to Williams and her unique take on the hot topics of the day.

The decision followed Wendy leaping the most of any talk show competitor during the February sweeps, with the series surging to new ratings’ heights. The leap in the talk show’s national and local market ratings performance started with the most recent expansion in mid-December of the Wendy fan-favorite “Hot Topics” segment.

Williams’ sixth book, titled “Ask Wendy (William Morrow),” went on sale May 7 and is based on the popular, recurring advice segment. She also recently formed Wendy Williams Productions, which will produce reality, game and talk shows.
