Univision Deportes Network the Fastest-Growing Cable Network in 2013 in Both Total Day and Primetime

 

NEW YORK, NY – JANUARY 13, 2014 – Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, delivered strong results with its sports content across its media platforms in 2013 delivering double digit growth in key metrics. Additionally, Univision Deportes Network (UDN), which launched in 2012, finished the year as the fastest-growing cable network in both total day and primetime in 2013.

In 2013, Univision’s Liga MX viewership grew +25% with Total Viewers and +17% with Adults 18-49 vs. prior year. In fact, UCI broadcast:

·         9 of the top 10 most-viewed soccer telecasts of 2013 among Total Viewers and Adults 18-49;

·         16 of top 20 soccer telecasts of 2013 among Total Viewers; and

·         40 of the top 50 soccer telecasts of 2013 among Total Viewers.
On UniMás, viewership for Liga MX increased by +16% for Total Viewers and +9% for Adults 18-49 vs. prior year. Additionally, UniMás broadcast the top soccer telecast of 2013 among Adults 18-49 across all networks – the Mexico vs. USA match on March 26, 2013 delivered 2.8 million Adults 18-49.
On the cable front, UDN ranked as the fastest-growing cable network in 2013 in both total day and primetime:

·         UDN was up +148% with Total Viewers and +153% with Adults 18-49 in primetime vs. prior year.

·         UDN was up +225% with Total Viewers and +220% with Adults 18-49 in total day year over year.
UDN was also the No.1 Spanish-language sports network in 2013 in primetime among Adults 18-49:

·         UDN bested ESPN Deportes by +34% and FOX Deportes by +2% among Adults 18-49.

·         UDN outperformed ESPN Deportes by +22% in primetime among Total Viewers.

 

UDN also had a strong year in social media. From 2012 to 2013, the Univision Deportes Facebook Page grew its fan base by 210% year over year and generated over 260 million content impressions. The Univision Deportes Twitter account (@UnivisionSports) grew its number of followers by 122% year over year and drove a high volume of conversation about Liga MX, the USMNT, and the MNT. The handle drove Twitter activity surrounding Univision’s coverage of the Liguilla final on May 26, resulting in the match ranking as the No.1 broadcast program of the day in terms of unique authors live tweeting during the match. Similarly, the Gold Cup match between the U.S. vs. Panama was the No. 1 broadcast program of the day, and the Confed Cup match between Brazil & Mexico was the No. 2 Broadcast program of the day, in terms of unique authors live tweeting during the match. In total, the Univision Deportes Twitter account drove a 370% increase in unique authors live tweeting about Univision Deportes programming, compared to 40% for Fox Deportes (@FoxDeportes), and 1% for ESPN Deportes (@ESPNDeportes).
