ABC’s weekly Live + Same Day Adult 18-49 average is projected to increase 30% to a 3.1 rating in Live + 3 Day and build 38% to a 3.3 rating in Live + 7 Day.

 

Week No. 37 (Live + Same Day)

ABC posted a dominant weekly win (w/o 6/1/15), beating its closest competition by 22% in Total Viewers (7.2 million vs. 5.9 million – CBS) and by 71% in Adults 18-49 (2.4/9 vs. 1.4/5 – NBC). The Net ranked No. 1 among Adults 18-49 for the 6th time in the last 7 weeks.

 

·         ABC was up the most among the broadcasters from the same week last year (6.7 million and 2.2/8 on w/o 6/2/14) in Total Viewers (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+9%). In addition, the Net delivered its top-rated non-Oscar week in nearly 1 year among Adults 18-49 – since w/o 6/9/14.

 

Rankings: ABC aired 7 of the Top 20 TV shows in Adults 18-49, including the Top 2 programs with the opening games of the 2015 NBA Finals and the No. 1 broadcast drama with “The Whispers” debut: “NBA Finals on ABC-GM 2” – No. 1, “NBA Finals on ABC-GM 1” – No. 2, “NBA Countdown-GM 1” – No. 5, “The Bachelorette” – No. 8, “NBA Countdown-GM 2” and “The Whispers” tied at No. 11 and “20/20” – No. 16. The opening games of The Finals also finished as the Top 2 most watched TV programs overall for the week. ABC “20/20” stood as the No. 1 newsmagazine among Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.

 

Monday

Featuring “The Bachelorette” and the series debut of “The Whispers,” ABC won Monday night in Total Viewers (6.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.8/6). 

 

“The Bachelorette” (8:00-10:01 p.m. – 6.5 million and 1.9/6 in AD18-49):

Shifting back into the 8:00-10:00 p.m. slot against stiff unscripted competition from NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” and Fox’s premiere of “So You Think You Can Dance,” “The Bachelorette” ranked No. 1 in its 2-hour time period and as Monday’s No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-34 and across all key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54). “The Bachelorette” ran in a virtual tie for the Adult 18-49 lead in the slot with NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” (1.9/6 vs. 2.0/7), while beating FOX’s “SYTYCD” opener by 46% (1.3/4). “The Bachelorette” was the most social series on Monday (81,349 tweets), up 15% versus last week.

 

·         “The Bachelorette” surged week to week by 20% in Total Viewers and by 19% in Adults 18-49 to match a best-since-premiere number in young adults – since 5/18/15. In addition, the ABC unscripted series grew 6% from its telecast on the same night last year in Adults 18-49 (1.8/6 on 6/2/14).

 “The Whispers” (10:01-11:00 p.m. – 5.7 million and 1.5/5 in AD18-49):

During the 10:01 p.m. hour, ABC’s “The Whispers” debuted at No. 1 in its slot, beating NBC’s “The Island” by 36% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/5 vs. 1.1/4). “The Whispers” was up from ABC’s most recent summer debut in the Monday 10:00 p.m. time slot (“Mistresses” on 6/3/13 = 4.4 million and 1.2/3) by 30% in Total Viewers and by 25% in Adults 18-49. In fact among Adults 18-49, “The Whispers” stands as ABC’s top-rated summer scripted debut in nearly 5 years – since “Rookie Blue” on 6/24/10.

·         In viewers and young adults, “The Whispers” ranks as the best drama premiere this summer.

Tuesday

“Fresh Off the Boat-R”/”black-ish-R” (8:00-9:00 p.m. – 2.8 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49):

On average from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC’s repeat comedies (“Fresh Off the Boat”/”black-ish”) beat Fox’s first-run “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” in Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.7/3).  

 

“Extreme Weight Loss” (9:00-11:00 p.m. – 2.4 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49):

From 9:00-11:00 p.m., ABC’s “Extreme Weight Loss” held steady with its week-ago season premiere in Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.9/3). The ABC unscripted series jumped in viewers (+33%) and young adults (+29%) from its first hour to its second hour, tying for 2nd place from 10:00-11:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49 (0.9/3 – tied w/CBS’ “48 Hours”).

Wednesday

“Celebrity Wife Swap” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 3.5 million and 1.0/4 in AD18-49):

During Wednesday’s 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC’s “Celebrity Wife Swap” was up for the 2nd week to a season high in Total Viewers (+3% – 3.5 million vs. 3.4 million) and steady in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 1.1/4), delivering its most watched telecast overall since mid-July – since 7/15/14. Opposite NBC’s Stanley Cup Finals Game 1 in the hour, the ABC unscripted series took second among Adults 18-49.

 

Thursday

Featuring primetime coverage of the 2015 NBA Finals Game 1 between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors, ABC shot to the top of Thursday night, outdistancing its nearest competitor by 6.8 million viewers (12.5 million vs. 5.7 million – CBS) and topping the other nets’ combined by 55% in Adults 18-49 (4.8/18 vs. 3.1/12 – CBS, NBC, Fox and CW).

 

·         In viewers and young adults, the Net marked in its strongest Thursday in nearly 2 years – since 6/20/13.

 

“Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night 1” (Various Time Periods)

Airing around the NBA Finals in various time periods across the country, “Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night 1” broadened the exposure for the ABC late-night talker in primetime. On average, “Kimmel Game Night” was up 31% in Total Viewers (3.8 million vs. 2.9 million) and 83% in Adults 18-49 (1.1/5 vs. 0.6/3) over the show’s 2014-15 season averages in late-night. In fact, ABC’s “Kimmel” just wrapped its most watched season ever with its 5th-straight year of growth in late-night.

 

“NBA Finals on ABC Game 1” (9:00 – 11:57 p.m. E.T.)

Game 1 of the Cavaliers-Warriors 2015 NBA Finals on ABC overshadowed its primetime competition and finished as Thursday’s definitive No. 1 TV program in Total Viewers (17.8 million) and across each of the key Adult demographics: A18-34 (6.8/29), A18-49 (6.9/25) and A25-54 (7.2/22). Golden State won the opening game of the series in overtime by a score of 108-100 to lead the best-of-seven series 1-0. The NBA Finals also stood as Thursday’s most social TV telecast with 3,079,371 tweets.

·         Game 1 surged by double digits year to year in Total Viewers (+19% – 17.8 million vs. 14.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (+15% – 6.9/25 vs. 6.0/20), marking the most-watched-ever start for The Finals on ABC – ABC began carriage in 2003. In fact it was the biggest overall audience for Game 1 of The Finals in 14 years – since the 2001 Lakers-76ers matchup on NBC. In Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, it equaled the 2nd-highest Game 1 numbers on ABC.

·         Among Total Viewers and across all key Adult demos, the 2015 NBA Finals Game 1 was TV’s No. 1 telecast since the early April – since 4/6/15.

 

Friday

“20/20” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 6.4 million and 1.4/6 in AD18-49): At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “20/20” won its hour to rank as Friday’s No. 1 TV show and spiked by strong double digits week to week in Total Viewers (+45% – 6.4 million vs. 4.4 million), Adults 18-49 (+40% – 1.4/6 vs. 1.0/4) and Adults 25-54 (+36% – 1.9/6 vs. 1.4/4), hitting 6-week highs on all three measures – since “Bruce Jenner: The Interview” aired on 4/24/15. In fact the ABC newsmagazine marked its most watched summertime telecast in almost 5 years (Memorial Day-Labor Day) – since 7/16/10.

Sunday

With continuing coverage of the 2015 NBA Finals (Cleveland-Golden State GM2), ABC took full control of Sunday’s primetime, outdrawing runner-up CBS with the “Tony Awards” by 7.7 million viewers (14.7 million vs. 7.0 million – CBS) and more than doubling other nets combined in Adults 18-49 (+143% – 5.6/19 vs. 2.3/7 – CBS, NBC and Fox). In fact it was ABC’s 2nd-straight night to beat its combined competition with NBA Finals coverage among young adults.

 

“Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night 2” (Various Time Periods)

“NBA Finals on ABC Game 2” (8:00 – 11:25 p.m. E.T.)

Featuring the Cavaliers at the Warriors, ABC’s 2015 NBA Finals Game 2 was Sunday’s dominant No. 1 TV program in Total Viewers (19.2 million) and across each of the key Adult demographics: A18-34 (7.3/28 rating), A18-49 (7.4/24 rating) and A25-54 (7.7/22). Building from Game 1 to Game 2, it was the 2nd-consecutive broadcast for the 2015 NBA Finals to finish as the No. 1 TV program of the night. As the opening two games of The Finals went into overtime for the first time ever, Cleveland won the second game by a score of 95-93 to tie the best-of-seven series 1-1. The NBA Finals also stood as Sunday’s most social TV telecast with 2,988,710 tweets.

·         The NBA Finals Game 2 spiked over its year-ago numbers in Total Viewers (+27% – 19.2 million vs. 15.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+23% – 7.4/24 vs. 6.0/18 rating) to deliver the highest-ever Game 2 numbers on ABC (since beginning carriage in 2003).  In fact, it was the most watched NBA Finals Game 2 overall in 17 years – since 1998 (Utah-Chicago).

·         On average through two games, the 2015 NBA Finals is up year to year in Total Viewers (+23% – 18.5 million vs. 15.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (+20% – 7.2/24 vs. 6.0/19) for ABC’s strongest start with The Finals.

·         Among Total Viewers and across all key Adult demos, the first two games of the 2015 NBA Finals qualify as TV’s Top 2 telecast since the early April – since 4/6/15.
