ABC’s weekly Live + Same Day Adult 18-49 average is projected to increase 30% to a 1.6 rating in Live + 3 Day and build 38% to a 1.7 rating in Live + 7 Day.

 

Week No. 15 (Live + Same Day)

During New Year’s Week (w/o 12/29/14), ABC aired 4 of the Top 12 non-sports TV shows in Adults 18-49, delivering 3 in the Top 7: “Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve-Pt 2” – No. 2, “Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve-Pt 1” – No. 6, “Galavant” – No. 7 (No. 3 comedy debut this season) and “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown” – No. 12. In addition, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve-Pt 2” was TV’s most-watched entertainment program overall for the week. In fact, “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” was up year to year in viewers and young adults, drawing its 2nd-largest audience ever. The Network grew week to week by 15% in viewers and by 20% in young adults.

·         ABC once again won the week in Nielsen’s non-sports averages, outdelivering its nearest competition by 9% among Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 1.1/3 – CBS), and is the No. 1 TV network season to date on that measure (2.3/7).

  

Monday

“Happy New Year, Charlie Brown” (8:00-9:00 p.m. – 5.4 million and 1.5/5 in AD18-49):

From 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC’s annual replay of “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown” surged from its year-ago telecast (on 12/30/13) by 32% in Total Viewers (5.4 million vs. 4.1 million) and by 36% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/4 vs. 1.1/3), scoring 6-year highs – since 2008 when ABC began broadcasting the special. ABC’s PEANUTS special nearly tied CBS for the lead in the hour (with a repeat “2 Broke Girls” and an original “Mike & Molly”) in Adults 18-49 (1.5/5 vs 1.6/5) and ranked No. 1 with Women 18-49 (1.9/6-tie) and top broadcaster in Kids 2-11 (1.6/6). “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown” also finished as the No. 1 broadcast TV show of the night with Kids 2-11.

 

“Rudolph’s Shiny New Year” (9:00-10:00 p.m. – 3.5 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49):

In the 9:00 p.m. hour, ABC’s encore of “Rudolph’s Shiny New Year” was also up over its telecast on the same night last year in Total Viewers (+6% – 3.5 million vs. 3.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+11% – 1.0/3 vs. 0.9/3), hitting 4-year highs – since 2010.  

Wednesday

With its New Year’s Eve line-up, ABC ranked a dominant No. 1 on the final night of 2014, winning all 6 half-hours of prime and beating runner-up NBC by 100% in Total Viewers (9.8 million vs. 4.9 million) and by 133% in Adults 18-49 (2.8/11 vs. 1.2/5). The Net was up from the year-ago New Year’s Eve in prime (9.1 million and 2.6/9).

“New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Pt 2” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 12.9 million and 3.9/15 in AD18-49):

Jumping over its lead-in at 10:00 p.m., ABC’s broadcast of “Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” overshadowed the final hour of the night and ranked as the No. 1 TV program in prime with Total Viewers (12.9 million) and across each of the key Adult demos (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54).

·         Head-to-head from 10:00-11:00 p.m., ABC’s “Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” more than doubled NBC’s “New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly” (5.4 million and 1.5/6) in Total Viewers (+138%) and Adults 18-49 (+160%). ABC’s show also eclipsed Fox’s “Pitbull’s New Year Resolution” earlier in the evening (2.2 million and 0.7/3 from 8:00-10:00 p.m.).

·         “Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” grew 6% year to year in Total Viewers (12.9 million vs. 12.2 million) and 3% in Adults 18-49 (3.9/15 vs. 3.8/13), drawing its 2nd-largest-ever overall audience the special premiered on the Net in 2000. The annual show was up by 4.4 million viewers and by 39% in Adults 18-49 from the last time New Year’s fell on a Wednesday in 2008 (8.5 million and 2.8/10 on 12/31/08).

Sunday

“America’s Funniest Home Videos” (7:00-8:00 p.m. – 6.1 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):

Against a monster NFL playoff overrun on Fox (Lions-Cowboys) during the 7:00 p.m. hour, ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos” was the No. 1 non-sports program in its slot among Adults 18-49 (1.3/4), beating CBS’ “60 Minutes” (0.8/2) and the first hour of NBC’s 2-hour “Dateline” (0.7/2).  “AFHV” was up from its last original 4 weeks ago by 3% in Total Viewers and held even in Adults 18-49.

 

“Galavant” (8:00-9:01 p.m. – 7.4 million and 2.0/5 in AD18-49):

At 8:00 p.m., ABC’s debut of “Galavant” jumped over its Adult 18-49 lead-in (+54% – 2.0/5 vs. 1.3/4) to beat its non-NFL-driven competition on NBC by 5% (1.9/5 for “Dateline”) and CBS by 33% (1.5/4 forMadam Secretary”). “Galavant” was up over “Once Upon a Time’s” most recent airing in the hour in Total Viewers (+30%) and Adults 18-49 (+18%).

·         Excluding only NBC’s “Marry Me” coming out of “The Voice,” “Galavant” is TV’s top-rated comedy debut since “black-ish” in September in Adults 18-49 – since 9/24/14. In addition, it equaled the highest-rated Sunday series debut since March – since 3/9/14.

“Resurrection” (9:01-10:01 p.m. – 4.1 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49):

At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “Resurrection” returned for its first telecast in 4 weeks up in Total Viewers (+3% – 4.1 million vs. 4.0 million) and even in Adults 18-49 (1.0/3), marking its most-watched telecast overall since November – since 11/9/14.

 

“Revenge” (10:01-11:00 p.m. – 4.0 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49):

During the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Revenge” returned with strong time-period improvement from the same night last year in viewers (+18% – 4.0 million vs. 3.4 million) and young adults (+29% – 0.9/3 vs. 0.7/2).
