SATURDAY’S ENCORE OF “48 HOURS: THE PRETENDER” IS THE
#1 BROADCAST AT 10:00 PM WITH VIEWERS AND ADULTS 25-54
Saturday’s encore of 48 HOURS: “The Pretender” was Saturday’s #1 broadcast at 10:00 PM with viewers and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for March 28.
48 HOURS delivered 4.68 million viewers and a 1.1/03 with adults 25-54, the demographic that desired most by those who advertise in news. Compared to the last first-run broadcast (on March 14), 48 HOURS added +110,000 viewers. 48 HOURS was up +15% in viewers and even in adults 25-54 compared to the same night last year.
Saturday’s broadcast featured Maureen Maher and 48 HOURS investigation into the murder of a family in Oregon and a killer who went on the run in Mexico while assuming the identity of former New York Times writer Michael Finkel. The case was so strange that Hollywood has made a movie based on the case called “True Story” that stars James Franco and Jonah Hill.
The story is set in 2001, when Frankel got a call from a journalist in Oregon asking if he knew Christian Longo. Longo, it turns out, had been arrested for killing his wife and children. Longo then went on the run and took on Frankel’s name. At the time, Frankel’s life was a mess, having lost his job at the Times for fabricating parts of a story.
The call from the Oregon reporter set Finkel on an odyssey that would result in a connection between Longo and Finkel that would end in a book and now a movie.
