ATLANTA – April 9, 2013 – GMC TV, America’s favorite network for uplifting family entertainment, continues to generate ratings growth with the premiere of the box office hit Courageous, which built on GMC TV’s “Easter Celebration Destination” success by scoring the network’s best GMC World Premiere Movie ratings ever and anchoring GMC’s second best week ever among key demos.

Courageous, which celebrates the power of courageous fathers, set GMC World Premiere Movie delivery records among W25-54, A18-49, A25-54 and in households (source 1). The movie premiered on GMC TV on Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET, with encore performances on Sunday, April 7 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET. The Saturday 7 pm premiere ranked 30th among all cable ad-supported networks in W25-54 and 11th among African-American W25-54 (source 2). The first four telecasts of Courageous attracted 2.9 million viewers (source 3). Courageous culminated GMC’s second best week ever among W25-54 and A25-54 (source 4), trailing only the previous week’s performance, which featured Easter-themed content including movies depicting great stories of the bible.

“Our programming, which entertains and is values-affirming for our viewers, continues to prove that when you inspire and uplift people’s spirits you make a strong connection with them,” said Charley Humbard, president & CEO, GMC TV. “Courageous resonated with our viewers because of its powerful portrayal of the relationship between fathers and family and was a terrific title to continue the momentum of our very successful Easter Celebration Destination programming.”

Courageous, starring Alex Kendrick (Facing the Giants, Fireproof), Ken Bevel (Fireproof), Kevin Downes (Bobby Jones: The Stroke of Genius, Midnight Clear) and Robert Amaya (October Baby), is an action-packed police drama from the makers of Facing the Giants and Fireproof.  As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood.  While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they’re quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark. When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith and their fathering.

On June 1, GMC TV will rebrand as UP, which better reflects the network’s continuing mission to provide uplifting family entertainment. The network will greatly expand its original programming lineup in 2013-14, with a record 66 new originals on the slate including World Premiere Movies, World Premiere Series and World Premiere Stage Plays.
