“Noticiero Telemundo” Delivers Best First Quarter Ever, Fastest Growing Broadcast Evening News Program, Regardless of Language

Telemundo’ Futbol Estelar’s“ Superclásico Chivas vs. America Match Most Viewed Futbol Liga Mexicana Game in 2013 Across All Spanish-Language U.S. Networks


MIAMI- April 2, 2013— Telemundo Media delivered its best quarter ever in the network’s history, up 7% percent vs. Q1 2012 averaging more total viewers than ever before during Monday through Sunday primetime programming, according to Nielsen. The network also had its best Q1 among adults 18-49 during the same time period. Telemundo ranked as the fastest growing Spanish-language broadcast network for the first quarter of 2013, delivering more total and adult 18-49 viewers than Unimas, MundoFox, Azteca and Estrella combined.

Telemundo continues to widen its lead over UniMás during Monday to Sunday primetime, averaging 98% more adults 18-49 (695,000 vs. 351,000) vs. +86% in Q1 2012. In addition, Telemundo delivered more than twice as many (+112%) total viewers as UniMás in primetime first quarter of 2013 (1,341,000 vs. 634,000).

During Monday through Friday 8-10pm, Telemundo also out delivered the CW network in total viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 18-34.

Programming Highlights

Telemundo’s record-breaking primetime performance is fueled by the by the run-away hit “La Patrona” at 9pm, starring Aracely Arambula, Jorge Luis Pila and Christian Bach averaging nearly 1.9 million total viewers and one million adults 18-49 this quarter, ranking as the #2 novela in Telemundo history, behind Telemundo’s original production, “La Reina del Sur.”


“Noticiero Telemundo” delivered its best first quarter ever among total viewers, making it the fastest growing broadcast evening news program, regardless of language. Among total viewers, “Noticiero Telemundo” is up 9% vs. Q1 2012 (813,000 vs. 744,000) and up 9% year-over-year (349,000 vs. 320,000) among adults 18-49.

On January 21, Telemundo’s broadcast of President Obama’s Inauguration reached nearly 1.4 million total viewers, while special coverage of the final days of the papacy of Benedict XVI through the ascension of Benedict XVI’s successor reached 3.3 million total viewers.

“Al Rojo Vivo” is on pace to finish the quarter with over 1 million total viewers, a +6% gain vs. Q1 2012. Among adults 18-49, “Al Rojo Vivo” registers double-digit growth, +11% year-over-year (442,000 vs. 400,000).


Telemundo’s “Fútbol Estelar” Liga Mexicana highly anticipated “Superclásico” match between Chivas and América delivered nearly 2.6 million total viewers on average and 1.6 million adults 18-49, the highest rated FLM match to date on any Spanish-language network in 2013 and higest- rated Telemundo’s “Superclásico” match since 2010. The match also delivered a cumulative audience of nearly 4.8 million total viewers, 39% more than last year’s Telemundo “Superclásico.”

Telemundo’s “Rumbo al Mundial” Soccer World Cup Qualifier between Honduras and Mexico delivered more than 2.3 million total viewers on average and nearly 1.3 million adults 18-49. The highly anticipated match also delivered a cumulative audience of more than 4.7 million total viewers, 7% more than the last match by the Mexican National Team broadcast by Telemundo (Guyana vs. Mexico, aired on October 12, 2012).


In the first quarter of 2013, Telemundo aired the top four primetime movies on Spanish-Language Television among total viewers and adults18-49, including the #1 ranked “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs,” which averaged 1,947,000 total viewers and 999,000 adults 18-49 on February 9, 2013.

“Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” ranks as the highest rated primetime movie on Spanish-Language Television this season among adults 18-49, total viewers, viewers aged 2-11 (561,000) and 12-17 (179,000).
