Rush Director Ron Howard to Voice Show Open for F1 U.S. Grand Prix on NBC

Stamford, Conn. – November 13, 2013 – NBCUniversal will surround its coverage of the Formula One United States Grand Prix with a robust collection of assets ranging from sports to news to entertainment to parks. The wide-ranging activation is part of NBC Sports Group’s big-event strategy, and will feature unique symphony opportunities with a number of NBCU networks, shows, and talent.


NBC Sports Group’s coverage of the F1 U.S. Grand Prix begins Friday at 1 p.m. ET on NBCSN, and continues through the weekend on NBC, NBCSN and CNBC.   For more information on NBC Sports Group’s coverage of practice, qualifying and the race, click here.




TODAY: On Friday, Nov. 15, TODAY will present an interview with British Formula One driver, 2008 Formula One World Champion, and 2011 U.S. Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton, who drives for Mercedes, will drive NBC News correspondent Gabe Gutierrez around the Circuit of the America’s track in Austin, Texas, and show Gutierrez what it’s like to race in an F1 Grand Prix.


JAY LENO’S GARAGE: On Friday, Nov. 15, will feature a special segment on the F1 U.S. Grand Prix. Leno, the host of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and one of America’s most popular car enthusiasts, had a chance to visit Circuit of the America’s track in October and take a lap around the course in an McLaren MP4-12C.  The segment also features interviews with British Formula One driver, Oliver Turvey, and Circuit of the America’s designer, Christian Epp.


RUSHAcademy Award-winning Director Ron Howard, who produced and directed Universal Pictures’ recent biographical F1 drama Rush about the 1976 Formula One season and the rivalry between drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda, will voice the show open for NBC’s broadcast of the 2013 U.S. Grand Prix.


WAKE UP WITH AL: On Friday, November 15 at 6 a.m. ET on The Weather Channel, Wake Up with Al hosts Al Roker and Stephanie Abrams will provide a forecast for the race weekend in Austin, Texas.


THE VOICE: Season Four winner of NBC’s The Voice, Danielle Bradbery, will attend the U.S. Grand Prix race in Austin, Texas and sing the national anthem live on NBC.


SPORTSDASH WITH YAHOO! SPORTS: Throughout the week, SportsDash with Yahoo! Sports, hosted by Dave Briggs and Carolyn Manno, will cover the U.S. Grand Prix.


NBC SPORTS REGIONAL NETWORKS & NEWSCHANNEL/AFFILIATES: Interviews with NBC’s F1 announcers will be featured on multiple NBC Sports Regional Networks programs and will be provided to 200+ NBC Affiliated and Owned Television Stations nationwide.


UNIVERSAL PARKS: Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando will help promote NBC Sports Groups’ coverage of the U.S. Grand Prix by airing U.S. Grand Prix promotion videos on the big screen at Universal CityWalk.
