Miami –February 17, 2015- The Telemundo documentary “Muriendo por Cruzar” has been named the winner of Long Island University’s prestigious George Polk Award in the category of Television Reporting. “Muriendo por Cruzar,” a documentary about the dramatic increase in deaths among immigrants trying to cross the border near Falfurrias, Texas, is a co-production by Telemundo and the Weather Channel. Presented by Noticias Telemundo reporters Carmen Dominicci and Neida Sandoval, “Muriendo por Cruzar,” describes the extreme weather conditions in the border region, investigates reports of mass graves and shares the testimony of the forensic anthropologists charged with identifying the remains of those who perish in their quest.
The George Polk Awards judging committee underscored the emotional wallop of the documentary and the way it helps bring the important issue of immigration to public awareness.
