NEW YORK — November 22, 2011 — It was a night filled with peace, love and soul at the 2011 SOUL TRAIN AWARDS taping onThursday, November 17 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA. The audience was treated to blazing performances throughout the night from celebrated singers Freddie Jackson, Cee Lo Green, Common, Chrisette Michelle, Mary Mary, Marsha Ambrosius, Musiq Soulchild,Anthony Hamilton, Tamar Braxton, Original 7ven (The Group Formerly Known As The Time), Natalie Cole, Jill Scott, Robin Thicke, Melanie Fiona, Keith Sweat, Bebe Winans, Joe, Lalah Hathaway and Kenny Latimore. Hosted by the original king of comedy, Cedric “The Entertainer,” the 2011 SOUL TRAIN AWARDS will premiere on both CENTRIC and BET on Sunday, November 27 at 9:00 p.m.*
Highlights from this year’s show includes a bone-chilling Gladys Knight tribute performance by Natalie Cole; a hilarious skit with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer and hip-hop pioneer Doug E. Fresh; an inspiring Heavy D tribute with Goodie Mob, Cee Lo Green and Big Daddy Kane; a soul-stirring performance by Cee Lo Green and Melanie Fiona; the crowd-amping Earth, Wind & Fire tribute performance; and an explosive comeback performance by the Original 7ven (The Group Formerly Known As The Time). Additional highlights include appearances by Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Valerie Simpson, actors Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Melissa De Sousa, Lance Gross, Demetria McKinney, Nelsan Ellis, Amber Rose, DJ Just Blaze, Kel Mitchell, Shaunie O’Neal, Tami Roman and many more.
The SOUL TRAIN AWARDS is a presentation of CENTRIC and Sunseeker Media and directed by Manny Rodriguez.
