Doctor Who premiered to 6.52 million viewers in the United Kingdom according to preliminary numbers.  That’s down 16% from the 7.7 million for last year’s premiere, but warm weather may have played a role, especially since Doctor Who aired at 6pm local time.

Last year’s premiere probably had the higher curiosity factor with it being Matt Smith’s debut as the Doctor (and Karen Gillan’s debut as companion Amy Pond) and Steven Moffat taking over the show from Russell T. Davies.

The sixth season of Doctor Who also premiered on BBC America on Saturday night, but I doubt we’ll see any numbers before Monday, and perhaps not until Tuesday.
