Disclaimer: these household metered market numbers from Nielsen’s largest 56 markets are very preliminary and you can’t calculate total viewers or adults 18-49 ratings from these numbers. The numbers below represent the percentage of homes that were tuned-in in those markets.

CBS’s Big Bang Theory opened at a 9.2/15 household rating/share last night — 23% higher than its premiere on Monday in 2009 with Two and a Half Men as a lead in.   $#*! My Dad Says pleased even the retentionistas with a 7.7/12 household rating/share.  More importantly for the hour, it was ahead of last year’s Survivor by 41%.  We’ll have to see the age demographics, but early indications are CBS improved Wednesday at 8pm and Thursday at 8pm with this move without devastating Monday nights.

CSI didn’t get a huge lift from Justin Bieber, but it built from $#*! and was only down 3% from last year with a 9.6/15.  The Mentalist built on that rising to a 10.2/17, up slightly from last year’s premiere of 10.0/16.  A good sign.

Community fans,  we’ll have to wait and see the age demographics to make any sense out of NBC’s numbers.   Sure The Big Bang Theory crushed Community, and even with Betty White Community couldn’t do better than a 3.6/6 household rating/share but Community still might have done as well as it did last year.  30 Rock scored a 4.3/7 and the premiere of Outsourced a 5.0/8 following The Office’s 5.6/9.  The Apprentice is poised to be off the map again with a 3.2/6.

The premiere of Fox’s Bones scored a 6.8/11 household rating/share and Fringe dropped to a 3.9/6, perhaps not a good sign, though again, the demos will tell the tale.

ABC’s My Generation premiered to a 3.9/6 while Gray’s Anatomy pulled a 10.0/15 and is poised to beat CSI in viewers and crush it in the age demographics.  Private Practice with a 6.4/11 will certainly have fewer total viewers than The Mentalist, but the demos will tell the tale.

Over on the CW Nikita scored a 2.2/3 household rating/share, 20+ percent better than last year’s Supernatural (1.8/3 on September 24, 2009).   Vampire Diaries had a 2.5/4 household rating/share.

Check back after 11:30a ET for our normal overnight report with total viewer and adults 18-49 info.
