The Bear has some good news for one of CBS’ sophomore dramas.

Thanks to its solid performance so far this season, “FBI” is likely to be renewed for another year. The series is currently averaging a 0.9 live + same day rating in the adults 18-49 demo, making it one of the network’s top 3 performers in the linear ratings.

Additionally, the series is performing almost perfectly on par with its first season’s 1.0 average, and has suffered a much less severe year-to-year drop than several of this season’s other returning series.

In other news, the Bear had his first incorrect prediction of the season so far, as CBS opted to renew “Evil” for a second season, despite its poor L+SD ratings performance. The Bear thought that Michelle and Robert King’s involvement in the series had the potential to protect it from cancellation, but had still leaned towards it getting axed.

CBS also extended the episode orders for “All Rise,” “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “Carol’s Second Act,” and “The Unicorn.” Despite that, the Bear is, for now, going to go ahead and keep those four freshman shows in their current places in the chart. “The Unicorn” and “Bob Hearts Abishola” are both likely renewals, while “Carol’s Second Act” is sitting just a little bit below in them in tossup territory. The Bear is still calling “All Rise” a likely cancellation too.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the amount above (or below) a replacement-level rating — i.e., the expected adults 18-49 rating of an emergency fill-in show should a series be canceled. For the 2019-20 season, replacement level is a 0.5 same-day rating in adults 18-49 for the Big 4 networks and a 0.1 for The CW. (Read more here.) The index number is taken by subtracting 0.5 (or 0.1) from a show’s average same-day rating.

Friday scripted shows (denoted with an “F” above) on the Big 4 have average ratings about 30 percent lower than those of other nights, therefore their ratings are multiplied by 1.43 (1/0.7, or 70 percent) before subtracting the replacement-level number.

Shows that have ended their seasons have their R/C Index number frozen at the point of their final episode.

(O) – Owned: All other things equal, shows owned by studios affiliated with their networks have a better shot at renewal than those from outside producers.
