The cancellation bear has been amused by the recent “reports” about how the CW’s Beauty & The Beast now looks good for renewal. The bear has heard similar “reports” countless times before, and ignores them. However, it does give the bear a good headline for his final regular prediction post of the season.

A renewal of Beauty & The Beast would be among the most mind boggling broadcast TV renewal decisions in the seven years the bear has been “alive”. It was the CW’s lowest rated show during 2014, and was pulled off the schedule with six episodes remaining (which are now scheduled to be burned off in the summer).

Although there’s significant competition for the title of “most mind boggling” TV renewal decisions over the past seven years, the bear’s choice would be ‘Til Death, which was yanked off Fox’s schedule seven low rated episodes into season 3 (after 44 total episodes), and yet was renewed for a fourth “season” of 37 more episodes (many of which never aired on Fox which aired on the most random of dates/times).

But “most mind boggling” is a matter of opinion, everybody is free to have a go in our poll, and in our comments. Shows suggested in the comments may be added to the poll on an (ir)regular basis.

Final predictions from the bear, which likely will be no different than today’s predictions, are coming on May 6.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. You can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. If you want to interact with the bear, Twitter, not these post’s comments, is now the best place to do that. It’s more fun for the bear and reaches far more people. While this post will likely be viewed over 40,000 times, the comments audience is a tiny fraction of that (a few hundred comments is typical).  24,000 follow the bear on Twitter.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show’s new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It’s calculated by dividing a show’s new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show’s own network. The network’s average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.
