After 17 weeks of the 2008-9 season, through January 18, 2009, CBS continues to maintain its lead for average viewers and both adults 18-49 and 25-54, but Fox, now with American Idol and 24, is beginning to make its move to surpass CBS for adults 18-49. That will likely happen in a few weeks. Fox continues to hold the top spot for adults 18-34, and will likely continue to stretch that lead going forward. NBC has begun to drift backwards now that Sunday Night Football is finished. After the Super Bowl bump, look out below!

CBS holds the largest season to date average audience with 11.34 million viewers, followed by ABC with 8.66 million. In the 18-49 demo, CBS with 3.98 million leads now second place Fox with 3.89 million. CBS also has the most average adults 25-54 with 4.88 million, again followed by Fox with 4.10 million. I don’t see Fox beating CBS in adults 25-54 for the season, but it’s not out of the question.

With an average of 1.81 million Fox occupies the top for adults 18-34 followed by NBC with 1.56 million and ABC with 1.46 million.
