Due to the nature of live programming the ratings for CBS on Sunday night (NCAA Basketball overrun) and NBC (Golf overrun) are approximate and subject to significant revisions in the final numbers. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate Ratings.
An overrun of the NCAA Basketball tournament (until approximately 7:50pm Eastern) boosted CBS ratings for the win on Sunday night as The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss rolled over the competition.
ABC and NBC were both hit hard on Sunday against the CBS competition, while Fox was mixed.
The second part of ABC’s Thin Ice skating special drew a nearly invisible 0.7 adults 18-49 rating. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was down 13% from last week to a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating. Desperate Housewives was down 5% to a 3.5 rating, yet another series low for an original episode. The Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution special managed just a 2.2 rating.
NBC plunged vs. last Sunday’s season premieres as the 8pm second outing of Minute To Win It fell 25% to a 1.8 rating. Celebrity Apprentice, mostly going against Amazing Race and Undercover Boss in the East/Central time zones fell 19% from last week to a 2.6 rating. Early in the night NBC aired a golf overrun (Transitions Championship) until 7:41pm Eastern which then joined a repeat of Minute to Win It in progress. They said their 8pm and later hours were unaffected.
On Fox, The Simpsons recovered a bit from last week, up 12% to a 2.8 rating, while The Cleveland Show was down 11% from its last original episode (2/21) to a2.5 rating. Family Guy was even with last week’s 3.5 rating. And in its second outing, Sons Of Tucson fell 10% to a 1.9 rating. ‘Til Death’s 1.0 rating for the hour was 25% above last week’s 0.8 rating.
Hard to draw any conclusion on the CBS numbers until we see the final ratings later today since the entire lineup was pushed back and sliced up between the time periods by the NCAA overrun. No Cold Case numbers here because it didn’t air in primetime in the East/Central. We should see them later today in the final ratings.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
