Most TV viewers of the 2010 FIFA World Cup had likely not heard a vuvuzela before tuning in to a match this week. They are described by the South African World Cup site as “plastic, a metre long, brightly coloured and sounds like an elephant”. That same site describes it as both “a beautiful noise” and (by at least by one man) “an instrument of hell”.

You cannot escape hearing them while watching the World Cup matches unless you turn your volume off entirely. ESPN has said they’ve somewhat muted the crowd noise mix in their telecasts because of them.

How do you feel about listening to the vuvuzelas during the World Cup matches?
